Question:
Assalam o alaikum,
I have a question re: a lettings agency business.
I was thinking of setting up a lettings agency. You know the type where you connect landlords and tenants and take a percentage for your efforts.
From what I generally know, I understood that there was nothing wrong with operating a lettings agency but when I thought about it in more detail I was worried that I might possibly be helping the landlords to increase in sin.
What I wanted to know was that, by me arranging tenants for landlords, many of who might be financing their properties via a mortgage, am I in any way blameworthy for helping them to continue in their riba transactions?
Answer:
There is nothing wrong in your business. You are not responsible for the actions of the landlord at all. It is just like a tenant who lives in a property acquired by his landlord on mortgage. The tenant is in no way responsible for his landlord's action.
