Question:
My wife is 4 weeks pregnant and I have made my decision that I will divorce her, with or without the baby. She is Mashallah a good Muslimah. Under the following circumstances is it ok for her to have an abortion?
Answer:
In regards to your decision on divorce no body can impose their view on
you. Our only advice on the basis of your assertion that she is a good
Muslimah, to give it time and see if you can feel for her.
As for the abortion, in the absence of a Muslim doctor's opinion that
the pregnancy and the delivery of a child will be physically fatal for
her or for the baby; abortion is not allowed as it contradicts the
clear ruling by Allah in the Quran "and kill not your children for fear
of want. We provide sustenance for them and for you" (17:31)
