Intention of Talaq with figurative words |

|
Question:
Assalam-o-alaikum
I would like to inquire about the divorce, if a man says to his wife that he will leave her after pregnancy will it be counted (that was done during the fight/anger) if not then please provide the source of hadith. As I have been looking into the sahihalbukhari.com but could not find it.
Answer:
Assalam o alaikum,
First of all, it is a promise not a statement of present tense. Secondly it is not a Divorce in clear word. Such a type of words are known as figurative Talaq, where intention of the person counts. If he intended a divorce by saying it, it will be one revocable divorce. If not, then there is no Talaq at all.
See Quranic verse (2:227 & 229) where specifically word ‘TALAQ’ is used.
Wassalam
