Halal or haram meat for animals? PDF Print E-mail
Question:
When obtaining an animal, such as a dog, for property protection, what kind of meat (Halal or Haram) should it be fed? Also, could a profit be taken from breeding then selling the puppies?

Answer:
You need not provide Halal meat to the dogs because they can eat any meat, which is good for their consumption. Anything left from Halal meat, which is not meant for use, could be given to the dogs. Selling dogs or puppies is Haram as the Prophet (SAWS) declared the price taken for a dog as Haram. The Prophet (SAWS) has allowed dealing in cattle, not dogs.
