How many days do i fast if im travelling to another country Print E-mail

As-Salam walikum,

I have question relating to making up my fast while travelling. Inshallah I

will be travelling to bangladesh in a weeks time, from the uk.

My question is how many days of fasting would I need to make up if i do not

fast on my journey there. In bangladesh they started fasting a day after the uk, so they will also end the fast day after the uk.  Would I need to make up 2 days of fasting as I would not be fasting 2 days or would I need to make up 1 day of fasting as when I am in bangladesh I would be ending my fast 1 day later then the uk. I would be very grateful if you could clarify this matter for me.

May Allah reward you, accept your daus, fasting and prayers in this blessed

month, ameen

Answer

 If you have begun your fast in UK a day earlier than Bangledish and you are travelling there then you have to keep fast according to them and for the days they fast until eid. This is because the messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said;

 "Fitr is celebrated when people celebrate it and Adha is when people perform

Adha" (Narrated by Aisha and reported by Tirmidhi)

Thus, if their month is for 29 days then you keep fasting for 29 days and if its for 30 then you keep 30 days, even if you maybe keeping 31 days of fasting in total. This is because if a person mounts on a journey after Fajr whilst he was fasting and in his country the fast breaks between 15 hours. However, if he is going to another country via plane then he cannot break his fast until he reaches his destination and magrib time has enterd (except if he wishes to break his fast due to journey). Even though he may be fasting for more than 20 hours.

Similarly, the days or hours may increase or decrease based upon the country

and their time zone. So, you have to keep fasting according to them and for

the days until they sight the moon for Eid.

With regards to making up the days then you need to makeup the days you did

not fast due to journey or other valid reasons.
