Question: what does belief in Angels mean? Can a person's faith be complete without it? Answer: The intended meaning of this statement is to have a soild belief that Allah has angels with Him, who are created from Light (Nur), that they do not disobey His commands and that they perform the tasks appointed to them by Him. They are a part of the many creations created by Allah and a person's faith is incomplete without having this belief in his heart with regards to their attributes, actions which are discussed in the Quran and the sunnah of Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) without innovating any additions or deletion or distortion. Allah says in the Quran: "The Messenger (Muhammad SAW) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allâh, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. (They say), "We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers" and they say, "We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your Forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all)." [Al-Baqrah V 285] also reported in the hadith narrated by Omar ibn Khatab in which Angel Jibreel asked Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) regarding Eman (faith), upon which he replied: "That you believe in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His messengers and Day of Judgement and to believe in the Decree of Allah, the good and bad of it" [Agreed upon] Thus, the existance of Angels is proven by explicit evidences which cannot be denied, nor can lead to any doubt. So, whosoever denies them has done kufr by the consenses of all Muslims. Rather, this verdict has been given by Allah Himself in the Quran: "O you who believe! Believe in Allâh, and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and the Book (the Qur'ân) which He has sent down to His Messenger, and the Scripture which He sent down to those before (him), and whosoever disbelieves in Allâh, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, then indeed he has strayed far away" [AnNisaa 136] Whosoever looks at the Quran and sunnah which talks about them, one would see their connection with Allah, universe and mankind. so Allah told us that which would benefit us in purifiying our creed, cleanse our hearts and correct our actions |
