Question:
Can Zakat be paid to poor relatives?

Asnwer:
It is allowed for a man to give Zakat to his poor relatives apart from those who are dependant upon him, like his parents, his wife and children. Only Sadat i.e. the progeny of the Prophet (SAWS) are not liable to receive Zakat. Even this progeny of the Prophet (SAWS) is confined to Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib. Instead they have to receive from the one-fifth of the spoils of war. There is nothing wrong if a person gives his poor relatives from Zakat.
