Zakat for residential houses, flats, rented property and farms used for farming? |

Of which of these is Zakat payable on:
1. Residential houses or flats
2. Property which has been rented out
3. Farm land which is used for farming
Answer:
Zakat is not payable on the residential home
It is payable on the rent only which is treated as income
Any product of farmland is liable for Zakat. Zakat is either on tenth of the whole product, if the farm is irrigated by rain only or one twentieth if the farm is irrigated by artificial means like a tube well, canal water etc.
