Ustadh Mohamed is an experienced imam, community builder, fundraiser, and teacher based in London. His extensive expertise in various fields is a result of his educational background and years of dedicated experience. Mohamed Jeylani's journey to becoming an Imam has been shaped by his rich experiences and his commitment to serving. Born and raised in Kenya, Mohamed's formative years were profoundly influenced by his time at Rawdhah Islamic Institute in Malindi, Kenya, which is Kenya's first Islamic seminary. There, he embarked on a transformative journey, dedicating four years to a rigorous classical study of Islam.
During his comprehensive education, Ustadh Mohamed immersed himself in various subjects, including jurisprudence, principles of jurisprudence, exegesis of the Qur'an, and classical collections of the recorded teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In 2005, Mohamed made history by becoming the first individual to complete the entire program at the Institute, achieving the highest overall points in the final year of the exam.
Ustadh Mohamed is a passionate community builder who is dedicated to bringing people together. He has worked tirelessly to promote understanding, harmony, mutual respect, and inclusiveness within the Muslim community and the broader community. This focus is evident in almost everything Ustadh Mohamed does, whether it's delivering weekly sermons, designing community programs and facilities, or engaging with members of the community in their everyday interactions.
His journey towards teaching began during his time at Rawdhah Islamic Institute, where he would assist and tutor his fellow classmates, laying the foundation for his passion for teaching. After his graduation, he served as a teaching assistant in an online Islamic Studies program, further honing his instructional skills.
Ustadh Mohamed's teaching efforts extended to mosques and Islamic organizations. He taught Qur'an and basic Islamic studies at various mosques in London and conducted a successful summer intensive course for children at the Taiba Mosque Complex during the summers of 2014 and 2015. He expanded his teaching efforts by offering weekend classes to local children.
During his time at the Taiba Community Centre, Mohamed taught weekday evening classes at an Islamic school, sharing his knowledge and guidance. As an imam at the Taiba Mosque Complex, he played a vital role in teaching Qur'anic and Islamic studies from 2010 to 2014. Additionally, he served as the principal of the Darul-Azar Islamic Academy Evening and the Taiba Madrasa Academy Weekend School, overseeing a student body of over 150 and managing a team of 13 teachers.
Nowadays, Ustadh Mohamed visits various mosques in London to lead the Friday Khutbah. Since 2020, he has been serving as the main Khateeb to deliver the Eid Khutbah in a park in Barking, London, with more than 6,000 attendees. He has also been invited to speak to students about Islam and Muslims in public schools in North and East London. Additionally, he attends Islam Channel's Q&A sessions, answering viewers' questions related to Islam and providing them with advice.
