On the 20th October 2022, the ISC was delighted to host and welcome a delegation from the Selangor Fatwa Committee of Malaysia. A deep discussion took place regarding such matters as sharia’a in our respective communities, the ground-breaking work of the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR), and Islamic education. The delegation was also introduced to members of the Islamic Shari’a Council and heard a fascinating presentation about its unusual and varied work.
The Malaysian guests included the Mufti of Selangor, Dato’ Dr Haji Anhar bin Haji Opir; Selangor State Executive Councillor, Mohd Zawawi bin Ahmad Mughni; members of the Selangor Fatwa Committe; and Assoc. Prof. Dr Khadijah binti Mohd Khambali. The British hosts included Sheikh Yahya al Halawa from Dublin, Mufti Barkatullah from London, Sheikh Akram Nadwi from Oxford, and Sheikh Suhaib Hasan from London.
